July 2009

Mike Bromley introduced his friend of over twenty-five years, Rex Peterson. Rex showed the group how to tie a Wrangler's Hitch, which has similarities to the Highwayman's Hitch. He said that some horse wranglers would not allow someone to work on a film set with horses until they could tie this knot . He also told many fine tales of his work with horses on the many movies with which he had been involved as a wrangler. Charlie Bell showed his Cat o' Nine Tails, made with some older but fine quality manila, not available any more from US suppliers. In attendance also were Jose Hernandez-Juviel, Lindsey Philpott, Joe Soanes, Tom Mortell and Don (Ben) Benedict of the Los Angeles Maritime Institute. Lindsey showed some new books written in Spanish with many different gaucho weaves and knots.

January 2009

Lindsey Philpott presented the four basic starts for square Turk's Head knots, otherwise known as Casa knots to braiders. The four starts having been described, Lindsey went on to explain how to expand from each of these to obtain many of the knots in Ashley's famous table of possible single-strand TH Knots.
